Part of a busy Manchester road has been closed off while engineers repair a burst water main. Chorlton Road, in Hulme, appeared like a 'river' in the early hours of Sunday morning (February 2) following the burst.
The road has been closed heading towards the city centre, between Jackson Crescent and the Chester Road roundabout, since around 3.30am. United Utilities confirmed that the burst had led to residents in the area having no water or low water pressure.
A spokesperson for United Utilities said: "We're on with it and our team will be in the area as soon as possible to get this fixed. Thank you for your patience, we hope to have things back to normal as soon as possible."

An hour earlier, cars had been seen passing through water along Chorlton Road as they headed towards the city centre. Contacting the water company about the issue, @mester841 wrote on Twitter: "@unitedutilities are you aware chorlton Road hulme m15 has turned into a river"
A number of tankers have been based on Chorlton Road since this morning. United Utilities says they are providing water to keep 'taps flowing and toilets flushing until the repair is complete'.
Engineers have been trying to repair the issue since around 8am. In the company's latest update shortly after midday, a United Utilities spokesperson said: "It’s taking us longer than we’d hoped to complete the repair in the area.
"Please be assured repairs are underway, but we do still have some work to do. Thank you for your understanding and patience whilst our team continue to work on this."
