Major retail chains work with Met police to tackle shoplifting surge

• The Metropolitan Police are deploying new technology to combat shoplifting across London, allowing retailers to directly submit evidence such as CCTV footage and witness statements to officers.
• This innovative software significantly accelerates investigations, reducing the time to obtain crucial CCTV footage from up to 28 days to mere minutes.
• Major retail chains, including Tesco , Boots, Marks & Spencer and Greggs , have already adopted the system, highlighting growing concerns over retail crime.
• The Met reports that the new system has led to a caution, charge or other criminal disposal in 29.4 per cent of cases, a substantial increase from the 7.3 per cent average before its introduction.
• Currently trialled in six boroughs, the force is expanding the platform to retailers in an additional eight London boroughs from Tuesday.
