A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a car plunged into the River Wear, killing three teenagers.

Northumbria Police issued the update after a painstaking operation was carried out to recover a black Audi A3 from the river in Sunderland city centre.
