Major new coach service linking Stansted Airport and Finsbury Park launches amid efforts to ease congestion

A major new coach service linking London Stansted with Finsbury Park has been launched amid efforts to reduce congestion on roads serving large UK airports.

Operator Flibco said the route would provide a greener and cheaper direct connection for passengers and staff, offering an alternative to private car travel.

The announcement follows the government’s “Better Connected” strategy, which aims to improve links to airports and reduce reliance on private vehicles.

The plan, led by Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander, sets out proposals to better integrate ports with public transport networks, easing pressure on roads and lowering carbon emissions.

More than 300 million passengers travelled through UK airports last year, contributing to congestion.

London Stansted’s Surface Access Strategy Manager, Steve Mills, said: “London Stansted is the UK’s number one major airport for public transport use by passengers with nearly 50% travelling by coach, bus or train.

"These new services to and from Finsbury Park and Enfield, plus our growing and successful partnership with Flibco, will help us maintain and build on our proud track record as the airport continues to grow.”

At Stansted, public transport use has risen slightly in the past year, with nearly half of passengers now travelling by coach, bus or rail.

Luxembourg-based Flibco entered the UK market in 2025 and has said it is investing in growth, including adding 18 new coaches to its UK fleet.

The company said that demand for reliable, high-frequency airport coach services had grown since its launch in Britain, reflecting rising passenger numbers and changing travel patterns.

A return ticket is about £19, without luggage.

Mandy Round, Country Director of Flibco UK, said: “We are delighted to announce our further expansion into the UK with a fleet of 18 brand new coaches and our new London Stansted to Finsbury Park route.

“As passenger numbers continue to grow, improving how people travel to and from airports is becoming increasingly important. Expanding public transport options is a key part of that solution. London Stansted is the start of our investment in the UK market.”
