A major change has been announced for alcohol sale hours in supermarkets.
Shops like SuperValu, Tesco, Dunnes and other Irish supermarkets will be able to sell alcohol from 10.30am on Sundays as part of the new nightlife rule changes. The current laws state supermarkets can't sell alcohol until 12.30pm on Sundays.
The new General Scheme of the Sale of Alcohol Bill, which was published this week, is expected to give a much-needed boost to Ireland's night-time economy by reforming licensing laws. The new legislation is expected to come into effect next year.

The new proposals by Justice Minister Helen McEntee will see pubs being able to serve customers until 12.30am every night of the week. This is a change from the current legislation that says pubs have to stop serving at 11.30pm between Monday and Thursday, and 12.30am on Friday and Saturday, followed by 11pm on Sunday
However, there is no change to the law that requires pubs and nightclubs to close on Christmas Day. Furthermore, pubs will still be able to sell alcohol on Good Friday as closure rules were lifted a few years ago.
Minister McEntee will seek formal permission to begin the process of drafting the Sale of Alcohol Bill at Cabinet. This will replace some 100 laws, some of which are over 200 years old and two-thirds of which pre-date the foundation of the State.
The bill, once enacted, will result in one piece of legislation to regulate alcohol sales.
