Plans for a £5m scheme to transform Skegness Pier and the Embassy Theatre have been approved by councillors. The rejuvenation plans, funded by Arts Council England, will improve the area for holidaymakers and residents.
The first phase of the redevelopment, led by the Mellors Group, will see the Skegness Pier be transformed into a new visitor attraction and cultural platform. A new multi-use amphitheatre space will be built on the pier and abandoned beach huts will be salvaged and restored, reports Lincolnshire Live.
There will also be improvements to the pier's façade that will include renewed lighting and furniture. Over on Grand Parade, the theatre's auditorium and dressing rooms will be refurbished while VIP boxes will be installed alongside creative workspaces.

A refurbished light box will also enable high-quality productions. Councillor Steve Kirk, East Lindsey District Council portfolio holder for the coastal economy, welcomed the decision, saying: "I am delighted that councillors have supported the opportunity to take another step toward making this transformational project a reality for Skegness and East Lindsey.
"Alongside our other flagship towns fund projects, this further significant investment will help to restore and regenerate some of our key attractions, including the pier and Embassy Theatre, and strengthen the reputation of Skegness as fantastic place to live, work and visit with a rich heritage, cultural and leisure offering for people to enjoy."
Chris Baron, the chairman of Connected Coast, added: "This funding, coupled with the towns fund investment, will benefit both local people and visitors alike who can experience and enjoy these two spaces, and all that Skegness has to offer. The improvements will also help to attract jobs, boost the economy, enhance wellbeing, and support our pride in Skegness."
Various improvements will be made to accessibility in the area, including a pedestrianised walkway on the approach to the pier and a Changing Places toilet in the theatre.
