An Edinburgh hotel has been named as one of the most romantic in the world in the lead up to Valentines Day.
Already known to be an idyllic looking city perfect for a loved-up weekend away, it seems the capitals hotels live up to the reputation.

Ahead of the big day for 2022, Big Travel 7 have released the top 50 most romantic hotels around the world, and Edinburgh is lucky enough to get a mention.
Competing with the likes of the Taj Lake Palace in India and snowy Northern Light retreats in Finland, Scotland managed to come in at number 19 with The Witchery in Edinburgh.
Tucked in next to Edinburgh Castle, the gothic and romantic hotel and restaurant was able to be named in the top 20, with a description stating:
"Sure, palm-fringed beaches and bathwater-warm sea is magical, but for some, there’s nothing more romantic than a roaring fire, wild hills and ancient castles. Enter, The Witchery.

"This intimate hotel is located right on the Royal Mile, moments from the castle gates. Inside it’s all wood panelling, velvety furnishing and lots of soft (flattering) candlelight. It’s the perfect bolthole for the most romantic minds.
"The library even has a secret bookcase and the rates include a bottle of champagne."
Creating the list, a huge number of factors were taken into account, including TripAdvisor reviews, property lists and reader suggestions.
The top spot was taken by the Amangiri: Canyon Point desert getaway in Utah, U.S.A.
