Activists are planning to rally outside the Iranian Embassy in central London on Monday in the latest show of international solidarity with anti-government protests in Iran.

British protesters are calling for the closure of the Embassy after accusing Tehran of having caused “bloodshed” and “torturing civilians” following the death of Mahsa Amini.

The death of Ms Amini, 22, on September 1, after she was detained by police in the capital Tehran for allegedly not adhering to Iran’s strict Islamic dress code, triggered mass demonstrations in the country.

The protests have taken place in more than 125 cities, with at least 270 people killed and nearly 14,000 arrested, according to the group Human Rights Activists in Iran.

In Trafalgar Square on Sunday, women wore T-shirts with blood-like handprints and political messages such as “They killed me because I knew the truth”, “How many more lives?” and “UK has Iranian blood on its hands”.

Donya, who is one of the organisers of the protests, said: “Every day more innocent people are being killed for their basic human rights in Iran.

"Our main target audience has to be the international community, because Iranians already aware of the atrocities committed by the fascist regime"

"Young British Iranians are continuing to amplify the voices of Iranians in Iran who are risking their lives for their human rights.

"We demand actions from the UK government and will not allow this momentum to be lost".

The United Nations will this week discuss how to hold credible investigations into Iran’s alleged human rights abuses.

The protest in London is expected to be held outside the embassy at 5pm on Monday.
