Maharashtra youth lands in custody with drugs worth Rs 2.8 crore

BENGALURU: A 24-year-old youth was arrested by Govindapura police recently when he came to Bengaluru to supply tramadol powder, cocaine and MDA powder worth around Rs 2.8 crore to peddlers in the city.

The accused is Ranjith Bhanu Gupta, a resident of Bhayandar East, Maharashtra. Efforts are on to trace his associates. Police seized 300 grams of tramadol powder, 6.5kg of MDA powder and 75 grams of cocaine. MDA is a recreational drug.

Based on a tip-off that a person had come to Bengaluru to supply narcotics to local peddlers, a team headed by inspector Prakash R reached the forested area near HBR Layout while he was waiting for his clients at 4pm on March 25 and detained him.

Gupta told police he brought narcotics on behalf of his employer Bhandari to supply to his customers.

Bhandari had allegedly procured MDA from Yateen Jain of Mumbai, tramadol from Antran Joms of Chennai and cocaine from Chetan Mehta of Mumbai. Later, he sent Gupta with them to Bengaluru, police said.
