Maharashtra: Truck runs over centering worker in Pune

PUNE: A 40-year-old centring worker sleeping in a construction site was killed after he was run over by a truck while taking reverse turn on Wadjai-Wagholi road around 5am on Friday.

The police identified the deceased as Anil Petekar from Sathe vasthi in Lohegaon.

"A truck laden with sand crush was unloaded at a construction site. Petekar was sleeping in an open plot when the truck while taking a reverse turn ran over him because its driver failed to notice him," said senior inspector Gajanan Pawar from Lonikand police station on Friday.

Pawar said,"The impact of the incident was such that the victim died on the spot. The driver abandoned the truck and fled."

"Investigations have revealed that Petekar was staying at the construction site four-five times in a day. He used to visit his residence at Lohegaon and spend time with his family members on weekends," he said.

"We have seized the truck and the driver will be arrested soon," he added.

Atul Petekar (32) has registered an FIR against the driver for causing his brother’s death due to negligence under section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.
