Maharashtra Pollution Control Board orders closure of Warada coal washery for flouting norms

NAGPUR: In a major move against pollution, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has directed the Gondegaon coal washery at Warada village in Nagpur district to close down immediately.

In a closure notice issued to Maharashtra Minerals Mining and Beneficiation Private Limited, Parseoni district, the board stated the washery unit was operating in the ‘pollution prevention area’. As per the notice, the board officials carried out a spot inspection on April 15 and found heavy dust accumulation within the factory area, indicating non-operation of air pollution control system.
