Maharashtra: Panvel waterfall plugged with stones to prevent drownings, greens see red

NAVI MUMBAI: To prevent drownings of picnickers at the popular Kundi waterfall in Panvel taluka, the local forest and police officials have dumped stones at the base of the waterfall to reduce its depth. Activists, however, have alleged that closure or filling up of natural sites and carrying out blasting work without obtaining prior environmental permission is illegal.

In a joint operation by the forest department, local police, gram panchayat and the local disaster management authority, excavators were used on Saturday and Sunday to fill up the waterfall area.
