Maharashtra: Gold worth Rs38 lakh recovered from Odisha thief, aide

NAGPUR: After arresting Odisha thief Prashantkumar Karad last week for his alleged role in at least 16 burglaries and thefts in the city, Ranapratap Nagar police have recovered around 951gm (81 tola) of gold worth around Rs38.12 lakh from Karad and his accomplice Shrikant Sethi, who was nabbed for helping dispose of the valuables.

Sethi was arrested from Odisha after cops traced his location through mobile phone network towers. Sethi’s details were procured through banks. Karad and Sethi are in presently in police custody.

Police said Karad admitted to committing around seven thefts at Trimurti Nagar, Jaripatka, Beltarodi and other places. He used to hand over the stolen gold to Sethi, who sold it to bullion traders in and around Odisha at low cost.

Police had earlier informed that Karad was nabbed with the help of an alert citizen. He was held red-handed while stealing from the complainant's house in Trimurti Nagar.
