Maharashtra: Fire guts scrap godown in Pune

PUNE: A scrap godown at Shivane was gutted in a fire that broke out around 2.45 am on Monday. No one was injured. Six fire tenders rushed to the spot and it took two hours for the fire brigade officials to control the flames. The reason behind the fire is being ascertained, fire brigade officials said.

Two workers, who were sleeping inside the godown, managed to run out before fire could spread,” the officials said.

Station duty officer Prabhakar Umratkar told TOI, “The scrap godown is spread over 3000 square feet. The godown operator had stored papers, scrap material, cardboards, plastic and other material. It added fuel to the fire”.

The residents of the neighbouring buildings woke up due to the noise of the fire and commotions. They took videos of the fire and they also alerted the fire brigade.

"Later, we were told that there were two workers inside the godown when the fire broke out. They were sleeping but they managed to run out of the facility after the fire started spreading", he said.

The fire brigade teams of Pune municipal corporation and PMRDA extinguished the flames at around 5.15 am.
