Maharashtra: 11 people sustain burn injuries while attempting to set a pyre on fire in Pune

PUNE: As many as 11 men sustained burn injuries at Kailash crematorium ground located off Raja Bahadur Mill road on Saturday evening while setting a pyre on fire.

According to the Bund Garden police, four men are seriously injured. All the injured persons have been admitted to the Sassoon general hospital.

Senior police inspector Pratap Mankar of Bund Garden police told TOI, “A 45-year-old man was found hanging at his residence, located on Tadiwala road on Saturday morning. After his post-mortem was performed at the Sassoon General hospital, his relatives and neighbours took his body to the crematorium ground to perform the last rites”.

“While performing the last rites, some of men threw petrol on the pyre and all of a sudden there was an eruption of flames and these 11 men were standing close to pyre. The erupted flames engulfed these men and they sustained burn injuries”.

“The other people present at the crematorium ground doused off the flames and moved the injured persons to the Sassoon hospital,” he said.

Police have made an entry of the incident and further investigations are going on.
