Magnitude 7.1 earthquake strikes Kermadec Islands region - USGS

USGS the United States Geological Survey Christian Schmollinger New Zealand

A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands region near New Zealand on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles).

The magnitude was initially reported at 7.3 by USGS but then downgraded to 7.1.
