Ciara Mageean has broken the Irish 800m record in the British Milers Club event in Manchester.
The Portaferry runner knocked 0.15 off the record by running a time of 1:59.27 to beat the time set by Shanahan in Belfast in May 2022.
Mageean finished second in tonight's event after being narrowly edged out by Australia's Abbey Caldwell who recorded a time of 1.58.92.

It was the first time two female athletes have broken the two-minute mark in an 800m race at a British Milers Club event. Mageean is also the holder of the 1500m record after breaking Sonia O'Sullivan's record last September, it having stood for 27 years.
The 31-year old also won European and Commonwealth silver this year as she prepares for the World Athletics Championships in Hungary in August.
