Washington Commanders minority owner Magic Johnson returned to the Washington area this week. Johnson attended Commanders practice Wednesday, even speaking to the team before practice. Johnson’s speech had coaches and players fired up.
On Thursday, Johnson visited the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, talking to kids and even giving out prizes. Johnson gave one young man $5,000 in cash if he promised to open a bank account.

What a moment. Johnson wasn’t done, though, as he gave out $1,000 to another young man, who also had to open a bank account.
Johnson then spoke on how the Boys and Girls Club impacted his life forever.
Oh yeah, Johnson also talked about his new football team.
What did Johnson tell his team on Wednesday?
“I kept telling them I’ve never been satisfied,” Johnson said, per John Keim of ESPN. “I’m a guy who wants more. I’ve always wanted more. I have 14 world championship rings, and I [want] a Super Bowl ring. And so how can I help them achieve that?”
Johnson won five NBA championships during his time as a player for the Los Angeles Lakers and is a part of ownership groups with the Los Angeles Dodgers [MLB], Los Angeles Sparks [WNBA] and Los Angeles FC [MLS]. He was a part of championship-winning teams for each of those franchises and also won five more NBA championships as an executive.
In addition to his success in sports ownership, Johnson’s business acumen is unparalleled.
Johnson spoke of what Sunday’s game will mean for him and his wife, Cookie, who is also a huge sports fan.
“We’re sitting there, and I say, ‘I never thought this day would happen,’ that I would be an NFL owner. It’ll be a great moment. And then when that kickoff happens, I’m going to be ready for the Commanders to kick some you-know-what.”
Sunday’s game is one of the most anticipated in recent franchise history.
In addition to Johnson’s charitable efforts, the Commanders also donated $50K to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.
