From now until Jan 29, Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park in Chiang Rai is hosting "Light Of Life", the first-ever outdoor light art exhibition amidst the mountainscape of Doi Tung.
Set across a spacious 150 rai park, blessed with well-kept botanical gardens, lakes and Lanna buildings, the event features twenty sculptures and installations of white light, kinetics and shadows by award-winning Thai visual artists and art studios.
Headlining the team are veteran stage light designer Phol Huiprasert, mixed media architect Wit Pimkanchanapong, digital art creator Pongpassakorn Kulthirathum and product designer Korakot Aromdee.
Their installations, created exclusively for the event, are curated into four themes: Life, Thoughts, Journey and Light. Each tells a story during the circle of life, beginning with birth, growing up, learning and overcoming challenges.
While aiming to attract artsy holidaymakers, especially the young generation, and give inspiration to the local art scene, the event also marks the 50th anniversary of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation.
The exhibition concept is inspired by the work of Princess Srinagarindra, the late grandmother of King Rama X and founder of the foundation. It portrays the princess' efforts to improve and leverage the quality of life of local people in Chiang Rai as the guiding light to the local community and beyond.
In addition to the exhibition, there's a Kad Mua market offering local food and crafts every Saturday and Sunday. The event is entertained by cultural shows and live music performances.
The Light of Life installation at Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 5-10pm. Tickets are 100 baht per person.
The park is located at Baan Pa Ngiew in Muang district, Chiang Rai province. For more information, call 053-716-605.
