Madonna's brutal question to Guy Ritchie which brought their marriage to an end

Madonna has had quite a few relationships throughout her glittering 41 year career, which have often made the headlines.

The 64-year-old Like a Prayer singer is currently dating toyboy boxer Josh Popper, 29 - making him 35 years her junior.

Madonna and Josh began dating in March this year Josh, and the sportsman shared a series of boxing photos on his Instagram page days after the singer was taken into the ICU after contracting a bacterial infection, writes The Mirror.

Alongside his snaps he penned a cryptic caption: "'Give yourself permission to live a big life. Step into who you were meant to be. Stop playing small. You are meant for greater things".

He added: "Thank you to my coach @fftstrong, my family, and the Bredwinners team for being by my side."

However, well before Josh was on the scene, one of Madge's most high-profile romances was with film director Guy Ritchie.

The couple met each other back in 1999 and were head over heels for each other and went on to marry the following year.

Madonna and 54-year-old Guy welcomed son Rocco in 2000 together and also adopted son David together.

The singing sensation previously described their love story as "flawless", but after said that after some time "cracks in the veneer" began to show.

The 64-year-old said it the relationship didn't turn out how she "thought it was going to be" and began asking one question which saw her and Guy's relationship breakdown.

In an interview with Newsweek magazine in 2012, she opened up on the relationship as it came to an end.

She said at the time she was "certainly asking a kind of existential question that I think people ask when they’ve been married that long: 'What is the perfect love?'"

The singer added: "Because when you start off, everything’s great and lovely, and the person you’ve married is flawless, and you’re flawless.

"Then time goes by, and you share a life, you have children, and there are cracks in the veneer.

"It’s not as romantic as it used to be."

She then said that by asking one question, she began to realise it was the beginning of the end.

She admitted: "You think, 'This isn’t what I thought it was going to be,' and 'How much am I willing to sacrifice?"

Rumours began to circulate in 2008 that they had split but the speculation was shut down by the couple.

It was rumoured that Madge was having a relationship with US baseball star Alex Rodriguez, but she denied this.

She told People magazine: "My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce. I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us.

"I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study."

However, in December that year, it was confirmed the pair had called time on their marriage.

They entered a compromise over custody of son Rocco, which divided their time between London and New York.

Earlier this week, Madonna's worried family say they "prepared for the worst" after the star was rushed to ICU with a "serious bacterial infection".

It's claimed the pop star was found unconscious in New York on Saturday and was rushed to hospital.

Madonna was believed to have been intubated for at least one night, however, she is now thought to be alert and recovering.
