A new programme will see “legendary pop icon” Madonna open up about her extraordinary life and career as she is interviewed by Graham Norton.

The BBC said the “world exclusive” will see Madonna meet with Norton for an “intimate, in-depth discussion about her incredible life and celebrated career”.

It was recorded at Koko in Camden, north London, the stage that hosted Madonna’s first-ever UK show in 1983, as well as the launch of her 2005 album, Confessions on a Dance Floor.

It will be broadcast later this month ahead of the release of her much-anticipated new album, Confessions II, described as a sequel to the 2005 release.

Norton said: “As a lifelong fan it is always a thrill to interview Madonna, but to meet her on the dance floor where she first performed in London over 30 years ago felt incredibly special.

“She remains a legendary pop icon who is still doing what she does best – getting people up to dance.”

The interview features Madonna looking back on her early days in New York and talk about her enduring relationship with the UK, as well as discuss her most recent performance at US festival Coachella.

Special guests, including her long-time collaborator Stuart Price, will also be involved in the programme.

The pair discuss Madonna’s new album and reveal the stories, inspiration, and creative process behind it.

Jonathan Rothery, head of BBC Popular Music TV, said: “Some commissioning decisions take a while to ponder, and some are a no-brainer.

“The opportunity for us to look in on an in-depth conversation between Madonna and Graham is definitely the latter.

“Madonna is such an inimitable artist and Graham a master of the art of chat.

“We are delighted to be working alongside So Television to bring this world exclusive interview to audiences on BBC One.”

Confessions II is Madonna’s 15th studio album, and will be released on July 3.

It is accompanied by a star-studded visual film, featuring fellow pop singer Sabrina Carpenter, actor Benedict Cumberbatch and supermodel Kate Moss.

Confessions II is her first studio album in almost seven years, following on from Madame X in 2019.

The original Confessions On A Dancefloor is known for its nightclub music and hits such as Sorry and Hung Up, and is considered to be one of her best albums, along with Like A Prayer and Ray Of Light.

The veteran popstar launched her career in the 1980s and has since achieved global success, having had 13 UK number one singles and 12 number one albums.

The star has also won many accolades throughout her decades-long career, including seven Grammys and two Brit Awards.

Madonna & Graham will be broadcast on BBC One on June 26 at 10.40pm and on BBC Radio 2 on July 4 from 6-8pm, with both available on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds for 30 days after transmission.
