During her 66th birthday celebrations in Pompeii, Madonna announced that she would be funding an artistic project involving youths. The project, known as 'Sogno di Volare' or 'Dream of Flying,' is currently in its fourth year and focuses on re-adapting comedies by Aristophanes. Madonna's contribution of about 250,000 euros ($275,000) will support the project for one year.
Madonna made the announcement while touring the Pompeii archeological park with its director, Gabriel Zuchtriegel. The project involves hundreds of young artists who perform these re-adapted comedies, starting at Pompeii's amphitheater, Teatro Grande, and then touring other Italian theaters.
Zuchtriegel emphasized the significance of Madonna's support for the project, stating that it is strategic for Pompeii as it directly benefits the youths living in the area. Many of the participating teenagers come from economically disadvantaged southern towns where school dropout and unemployment rates are higher.
The show funded by Madonna's foundation is scheduled to be staged at Pompeii's Teatro Grande in May 2025. This initiative not only highlights the importance of arts and culture but also provides valuable opportunities for young individuals in the region.
