Madonna and Sam Smith collaborate for new song Vulgar after 'satanic' criticism

Provocative pop stars Madonna and Sam Smith have dropped the news they are releasing a song together this summer.

The track is called Vulgar and will be released on June 9 both artists teased to their millions of followers on Instagram.

Sharing a snap of the pair wearing corsets with the letters ‘S&M’ over the top, Madonna wrote: “VULGAR.......... new song out Friday June 9th @samsmith.”

Over on their own Instagram, Sam simply shared a video with the words ‘VULGAR’ in pink followed by the date of the song’s release.

What is thought to be a teaser of the new track played in the background and the clip ended with the pair saying ‘Sam and Madonna’.

The news dropped days after gender neutral Sam was forced to pull out of their tour when they lost their voice on stage during a gig in Manchester.

Before the gig last week, fans lost their minds when it was revealed their would be a ‘surprise’ at the end of the show.

Sam went on social media to say: "Manchester, we’ve got a surprise for you this evening. ‘Unholy’ won’t be the last song….”

Many fans were left excited, hoping the Queen of Pop would be making an appearance after her name featured in a video on Sam’s Instagram page.

But just four songs into their show at the AO Arena Sam walked off stage leaving fans baffled as the venue was plunged into darkness.

Hours later, Sam explained they had "fought off a virus a few weeks ago" but had "felt fine" during soundcheck.

They explained on Instagram: "During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong. I came off stage and have tried everything to get my voice back in gear but it won't.”

Apologising to fans, Sam added: "I am honestly heartbroken I couldn't finish the show tonight for you all. I love you all. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.”

Sam’s stage antics – including a ‘satanic’ performance of hit song Unholy at the Brits – have sparked controversy lately.

But while some have branded Sam’s outfits and religious connotations in their performances ‘vulgar’, it seems they are reclaiming the word for this new track with Madonna.

Fans are here for the hotly anticipated collab, with one saying: “OMG I cannot wait!”

Another wrote: “I’ve never been so excited!” “And suddenly just like that I’m on the floor passed out,” another excited fan chimed in.

“Did I hear number one?” a fourth asked, while a fifth added: “This is the Pride gift we all deserve!”
