Madhya Pradesh: Rahul Gandhi offers prayers at Ujjain's Mahakal temple

UJJAIN: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday offered prayers at Shri Mahakaleshwar temple after his Bharat Jodo Yatra entered the temple city in the evening. This was his second temple visit in Madhya Pradesh after he offered prayers at another jyotirlinga Omkareshwar temple.

Gandhi, wearing white 'Dhoti', undershirt and a red coloured scarf, offered prayers in the sanctum sanctorum as the priests recited 'Panchopchar Shodashopachara Mantra'.

MPCC leaders including Kamal Nath, Jaivardhan Singh, Jitu Patwari and Mahesh Parmar, who accompanied Gandhi, sat in the 'Nandi Griha', adjacent to the sanctum sanctorum.

Temple priests also offered Gandhi a 'Rudraksha Mala'.

As per the custom, he also whispered his wishes in the ear of the 'Nandi' and spent some time in the Nandi Griha with his party colleagues. The puja, which started around 4.20 PM and lasted for around 20 minutes.

Temple priest Raman Trivedi told TOI that Gandhi, who announced his gotra as 'Kaasyap', followed all the instructions and completed all the rituals.
