INDORE: A magisterial court in Mandsaur has sentenced former municipality chairman and BJP candidate Shreeram Kotwani to one year of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 2000 in two cases, including preventing government servant from discharging duty.
The chief judicial magistrate SS Jamra has imposed a fine of Rs 500 for obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions and Rs 1500 fine under sections related to MP Dukan Sthapana Adhiniyam.
Public Prosecutor ADPO Sanjay Vasunia told TOI that on August 12, 2012, a team of labour inspector Harinarayan and deputy labour inspector Badrilal Kharadiya, during an inspection, had found Shreeram Kotwani doing business at Roop Nikhar market on Sunday when it should remain closed in accordance with rules. The labour inspector issued a challan against him for violation of norms.The officials had asked for a license from Kotwani, who threatened them for issuing challan and tried to slap labour inspector Harinaryan. Deputy labour inspector Kharadia saved Harinarayan. Later, a complaint was lodged against Kotwani for obstructing public servant in discharge of duty at Kotwali police station under section 353 and 506 of IPC against him. The accused has also been found guilty under section 49 of MP Dukaan Sthapana Adhiniyam for operating a shop on Sunday and not cooperating with officials.
