Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner has agreed to have his thighs examined by cops in a bid to escape a rape charge.
German prosecutors suspect the convicted paedophile of raping Irish tour rep Hazel Behan in a Portuguese holiday resort in 2004.
They handed over their file of evidence on the alleged attack to Brueckner’s lawyer, Friedrich Fuelscher, last month.
It reportedly includes a statement Behan gave to police saying her attacker had a large cross-shaped scar on his right thigh.
German newspaper Bild says Brueckner claims to have no scars on his thighs and has consented to have them examined.
Mr Fuelscher says prosecutors will have to clear him as a suspect because he could not have been the attacker.
He told Bild: “Should it be true that Mr Brueckner does not have this feature, he would have to be ruled out as the perpetrator.”
German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters refused to comment on the report when approached by the
Irish Mirror.
Brueckner is the prime suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance from her parents’ holiday apartment in 2007.
He was living in a camper van close to Praia da Luz when she vanished while Kate and Gerry McCann dined in a tapas restaurant.
The couple, from Leicestershire in England, still believe their daughter is alive and recently marked the 15th anniversary of her disappearance. Brueckner, 45, is currently serving a seven-year sentence in a German prison for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz. He denies any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.
The German is also a suspect in two indecent exposure cases in Portugal involving children.
