Madeleine McCann latest: Woman claiming she's missing Madeleine McCann shares new 'smile' theory

The young woman claiming she may be Madeleine McCann has shared side by side images of herself and Kate McCann suggesting thy look similar.

Her latest claims comes after it emerged the McCanns have been in touch with the young Polish woman for a DNA test to check if she could be their daughter.

Madeleine McCann disappeared from her holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in 2007. No trace of her has ever been found. She was three years old at the time.

Julia Wandelt, 21, went viral last week after posting on social media, claiming that she is Madeleine, and posting evidence including birth marks that look similar to the missing British girl.

Julia, from Poland, claims to have a freckle on her leg and a speck in her eye in the same places as the British girl, as well as looking similar to parents Kate and Gerry.

Now, she has shared comparison photos of herself and Kate McCann smiling. The separate images were posted as a collage to her @iammadeleinemcann Instagram page with people suggesting their resemble one another.

It's understood the McCanns are taking no chances and want to find out if the mysterious social media user is in fact their daughter who has now been missing for almost 16 years.

A source close to the McCanns said: “The family are taking no chances, they are willing to look at all leads. It is important they look at all of the factors, the girl does look similar. There’s no disputing that.

“If what she says is true, there is every chance it could be her. It all adds up.”

It is believed a McCann family member has come forward to offer to take part in a DNA test.

Julia hopes to make direct contact with the parents of Madeleine, who vanished age three, in the coming days.

The McCanns were approached by the Sunday Mirror for comment.

Julia created an Instagram account named @iammadeleinemcann earlier this week, and the profile has now gained more than 370,000 followers.

She said she started wondering if she was Madeleine "a few months ago" after hearing "something" from her grandma.

While she says she is 21 years, Julia believes her age could be wrong. Madeleine was born in May 2003, meaning that she would now be 19.

Her Instagram bio says: "I think I can be Madeleine. I need DNA test.

"Police investigators from UK and Poland try to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me."

In a post published on Friday, the woman claimed she talked to someone who claimed to be Madeleine's cousin and told her she could "have a possibility" to talk to Kate and Gerry McCann to arrange a DNA test.

Answering questions she was asked by some followers, the unnamed woman said she does not remember being taken away and has no recollection of most details of her childhood.

She said: "I don't remember being taken away. I mean, I don't remember almost my entire childhood."

Madeleine was just four years old when she disappeared from her holiday apartment while on holiday in Praia da Luz in Portugal in 2007.

Mystery has surrounded the search for Madeleine in recent years but no trace of her has ever been found.
