Apple Arcade is greatly expanding its sports mobile game experiences with the arrival of "Madden NFL 27" Arcade Edition, which will deliver dedicated iOS gameplay starting next month.
The company, in collaboration with EA Sports, is set to bring new experiences to users subscribed to the Apple Arcade service or via the Apple One bundle, leveraging a different kind of American football in the arcade setting.
'Madden NFL 27' Is Getting an Apple Arcade Version
Apple announced the new release through its official Newsroom channel, confirming that "Madden NFL 27" Arcade Edition was built specifically for Apple Arcade rather than being a stripped-down port of the console version.
Alex Rofman, Apple's senior director of Apple Arcade, said the addition rounds out an already strong lineup of sports titles on the service, joining games like "NFL Retro Bowl," "NBA 2K," and "Football Manager."
Evan Dexter, EA's vice president of Franchise Strategy and Marketing, said the release gives a new audience of football fans the chance to experience "Madden" in its most authentic form, whether playing as elite NFL players or managing a franchise as general manager.
He added that Apple Arcade was chosen as a fitting home for the game because it matches the complete, no-compromise experience EA wanted to deliver.
The game arrives alongside two other football titles joining the service, expanding Apple Arcade's growing lineup of sports games just ahead of the new NFL season.
What to Expect From 'Madden NFL 27' Arcade
"Madden NFL 27" Arcade Edition launches on August 6, arriving as a complete version of the game free from ads or in-app purchases. The release features current NFL teams, realistic simulation gameplay, and dynamic player ratings pulled from real-world performances throughout the season.
Players will have access to both Quick Play and Franchise modes at launch. Franchise mode is built around a weekly story engine that puts players in the GM seat, letting them navigate season-shifting storylines, build fan support, and work toward assembling a championship roster.
The game also supports seamless controller play across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, letting players jump between devices without losing the console-style experience EA is aiming for.
Is 'Madden NFL 27' Getting Ultimate Team Mode?
Apple's announcement does not mention Ultimate Team as one of the available modes at launch, focusing instead on Quick Play and Franchise mode as the two core ways to play, as per Engadget.
Since Ultimate Team is one of the more prominent modes in the mainline console version of "Madden," its absence from Apple's announcement suggests the Arcade Edition may be built around a more streamlined experience rather than a full recreation of every mode found in the traditional release.
Alongside "Madden NFL 27," Apple Arcade is also adding "Retro Bowl College+" on the same August 6 release date, giving football fans another new title to dive into.
A new season of "NFL Retro Bowl '27" is set to follow on September 3, introducing a new Gauntlet Mode that challenges players to survive a 15-game win streak using limited starting resources.
