Macy Gray deletes tweet claiming anti-trans comments were ‘grossly misunderstood,’ tells critics to ‘fk off’

Macy Gray is changing her tune.

A day after the Grammy Award-winning singer said she’s been a long-time supporter of the transgender community, she is now telling her critics to “fk off.”

For the last few days, the “I Try” singer has been criticized on social media for comments on transgender issues she made during an interview with Piers Morgan on Monday’s episode of TalkTV’s “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”

On Tuesday, Gray clarified her position, saying in a statement that her words had been misunderstood and that she has been a long-time supporter of the transgender community.

She also tweeted her clarification, saying that “i got nothing but love for lgbt+ and transgender communities,” and that “my statement on piers morgan was GROSSLY misunderstood. i respect everyone’s right to be whoever they wana be.”

On Wednesday, the 54-year-old chart-topper went back to the microblogging platform to once again respond to the ongoing backlash, writing to “all of you coming on my page, threatening me and calling me names - just becuz i said something you don’t agree with — be whatever you wana be, and fk off,” she wrote.

She also appears to have deleted her previous claims that her comments had been misunderstood.

Gray sparked fury among Twitter users after she defined “woman” as “a human being with boobs … and a vagina,” when discussing transgender issues with Morgan. She also acknowledged that “everybody’s going to hate me” for saying that “just because you go change your [body] parts, doesn’t make you a woman.”

During the same interview, Gray told the controversial British television host that “the whole he, she, they (pronoun usage) is getting a little confusing,” and agreed with his views that trans women should be prohibited from competing against cisgender women in sports.

“If you want me to call you a ‘her,’ I will, because that’s what you want, but that doesn’t make you a woman just because I call you a ‘her’ and just because you got a surgery,” Gray said, adding that she doesn’t think “you should be called transphobic just because you don’t agree,” and that “there’s a lot of judgment and throwing stones at people for just saying what it is.”
