Macaulay Langstaff makes Notts County promise after dream debut

Macaulay Langstaff promised Notts County fans that there is still a lot more to come from him, after scoring two goals on his debut for the club. The Magpies triumphed 3-0 at home to Maidenhead United on the opening day of the National League season to get new manager Luke Williams off to the perfect start.

Langstaff arrived at Meadow Lane this summer off the back of a prolific campaign in the National League North with Gateshead United. The 25-year-old scored 28 league goals in 39 games, the most out of anyone in the division, to push Gateshead to the league title last term.

With that in mind, Langstaff made the move with big expectations from the Notts fanbase to be their main goalscoring threat, and his time with the Nottingham club got off to the perfect start against Maidenhead. Langstaff’s competitive debut showed that he is not fazed by the pressure being placed on his shoulders, and he explained that there is a lot more to come from himself and the team as a whole.

“I think you’ve just got to embrace it,” said Langstaff. “When you score goals, the expectation is going to come with that. I got 32 last year, so yeah, there are expectations, but I am full of belief and confidence in my abilities.

“I’ve kept that going into pre-season, and now to start the campaign, there is always going to be pressure, especially at a club this size, but I’ve just got to embrace it and use it as a positive rather than a negative. We were good [against Maidenhead], but we still feel as a group that we can reach a much higher level, which is a big plus considering we won the game 3-0. We’ve got some really tough games coming up, and we need to be at our best.

“I am off the mark for the team now, but there is a lot more that I can offer. I work hard for the team, and I stretch defences with my work-rate, and I just want to keep putting in good all-around performances. If I can do that and help the team as well as score goals, then I am happy.”
