Cincinnati Bengals and fans ripped into New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones for his illegal hit on Eli Apple during the Week 16 meeting between the two teams.
Now the NFL has had its say on Jones’ actions, too.
The NFL fined Jones a total of $23,976 for two different incidents during the game. The low hit on Apple cost $13,367, while a personal foul late in the game cost $10,609.
Those fines follow league rules about escalating offenses. For some, the monetary value might not match the seriousness of Jones trying to go low on Apple, who had no part in the play as a defending teammate returning a ball. The other transgression wasn’t shown on the broadcast, but flagged for a personal foul.
While the Bengals are on to other things, the expected fine letters came down in the aftermath of their seventh consecutive win.
