Mabbett acquires Hampshire-based consultancy

Glasgow-headquartered environment, engineering and safety consultancy Mabbett & Associates has acquired energy and environmental consultants GEP Environmental.

The majority investment in the Hampshire-based company - which has offices in Winchester, Edinburgh, Anglesey and Caerphilly - cements a decade-long working relationship between the two.

The deal should significantly enhance the technical resources and service offering of the combined group - which will number in excess of 100 people - while also extending its reach to cover the entire UK, adding to current Mabbett offices in Belfast, Cardiff, Carlisle, Dundee, Forres, Glasgow, Inverness, Leicester, Liverpool and Rosyth.

Mabbett managing director Derek J. McNab said: “We believe will bring huge benefits to the clients of both companies going forward, not to mention the new opportunities that the enhanced service offering and reach will bring.

“Having enjoyed a decade-long working relationship with GEP Environmental - as contractor/sub- contractor and vice versa - we have long admired their values and capabilities.

“There are great synergies between the companies in the energy engineering and environmental sectors but also some complementary skill-sets and services that will introduce new ways of doing things for both companies.”

GEP Environmental director and principal environmental consultant Peter Schofield commented: “There is so much appetite and opportunity in the marketplace right now for the services we both offer and, together, we will be able to better capitalise on them.

“GEP will now be able to offer the integrated end-to-end service - from strategy through to implementation - it is known for across a much broader spectrum of services, which will be a huge plus to our collective client base.”

Acquiring GEP Environmental is Mabbett’s third major strategic investment since transitioning into Inverness-based investment company, GEG Capital.

Mabbett acquired Highland planning and design consultancy GHJ during the first quarter, as well as the acquisition of the assets of Nevis Environmental, an independent environmental management and planning services consultancy.

The latest deal comes on the back of a year of double digit growth at Mabbett, in which time it has added 25 new staff positions across the UK.

GEG Capital director Jia MacKenzie said: “With excellent values, reputation and capabilities in their field, we see GEP as a perfect match for Mabbett, and expect it to be a catalyst for further growth both regionally and sector-wise.

“Alongside Derek McNab, we look forward to working with Peter Schofield, Glyn Mountford and their team to pursue the abundant opportunities in a growing sector.”
