The M8 has been closed in both directions due to a "police incident" on the motorway near Glasgow Airport.
Emergency services raced to the busy road between junction 28 and 27 after the alarm was raised at around 6.10pm on Tuesday, May 24.
Officers received a report for a "concern for a person" on the road and quickly closed off the eastbound section near the exit for the airport.
The road remains closed and it's understood traffic is heavy on approach from both directions.
Frustrated commuters have posted pictures on social media of huge tailbacks following the incident.
Traffic Scotland raised the alarm on social media.
In a post on Twitter they said: "NEW! 18:10 #M8 CLOSED Eastbound between J28-27 due to a police incident.
"Traffic heavy on the approach, please avoid the area if possible."
At 6.53pm they added: "#M8 Now CLOSED Eastbound between J29-28 due to a police incident.
"Traffic heavy on the approach in both directions with approx 20 minute delay and backing up onto the #A737 please avoid the area if possible."
Traffic Scotland said they do not have a timescale for when the incident is hoped to be resolved.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of concern for a person on the M8 eastbound at junction 28 at around 5.45pm on Tuesday, 24 May, 2022.
“A 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital.
"The M8 eastbound was closed between junction 29 and junction 27 until around 9.20pm.”
