M50 crash: Two confirmed dead as gardai release full details and slam some for online behaviour

Two motorcyclists have died after a three-vehicle collision on the M50 on Friday afternoon.

Gardai confirmed that two bikes and a lorry collided on the M50 northbound shortly after 2pm between junction 7 and 9.

Dublin descended into traffic chaos as a result of the smash with the country's busiest motorway not fully reopening until almost 9pm Friday night.

A garda spokesperson said: "The road, which was closed for a number of hours between Junction 9 and Junction 7 Northbound as Gardaí investigated the incident, has now reopened fully.

"Forensic Collision Investigators have concluded a technical examination of the scene.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the M50 Northbound before Junction 9 prior to the road being closed or any road users who may have passed the scene are asked to please make this footage available to Gardaí."

Social media users have also been slammed and warned by gardai after graphic images of the crash were shared.

In a tweet, the gardai said: "An Garda Síochána is aware of graphic images of today's Fatal Road Traffic collision which are being shared across social media and messaging apps. An Garda Síochána appeals to everybody, DO NOT SHARE This Material, it is disrespectful to the deceased, their family and friends."
