Massive queues are building on the M5 this morning (Friday, April 15) as Easter travel chaos begins. Pictures show rows of standstill traffic travelling southbound at the Portishead junction near Bristol.
Traffic and travel service Inrix is also reporting delays on the M5 at the Almondsbury Interchange and Weston-super-Mare. It comes as millions of people are set to take to the roads today for a getaway or to visit loved ones for Easter.
An estimated 4.62 million journeys are likely to be made across the UK, with a further 22.48 million across the Bank Holiday weekend in what could be the busiest in years, according to the RAC. More delays are predicted following carnage on the roads yesterday, which saw a vehicle on fire and animals in the road near Bristol.

Travel chaos has also been reported at Heathrow, Manchester and Birmingham airports today, with dozens of British Airways and easyJet flights cancelled. The Independent reports some easyJet flights from Bristol to Spain have been cancelled today. Easyjet has been approached by BristolLive for comment.
Rail passengers have also been warned of further delays as Network Rail carries out 530 engineering projects costing a total of £83 million over the weekend. These include the closure of the West Coast Main Line between London Euston and Milton Keynes for four days from Good Friday due to upgrades of the existing line and HS2 work.
