A public appeal for information has been launched after a tipper truck collided with an overhead gantry on the M5 earlier today (March 2). Investigating officers from Avon and Somerset Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw the lorry in the moments before the crash.
Police were called to the southbound carriageway between Cribbs Causeway and Avonmouth at around 8.20am. It has been confirmed that no one was injured in the crash but the motorway remains closed southbound as National Highways engineers assess damage done to the gantry and the road surface.
The force are urging anyone who witnessed the lorry driving before the crash, or who has relevant dash cam footage, to come forward and help enquiries. If you can help, call 101 and quote reference 5223050000.
Avon and Somerset Police said in a public appeal: "We understand the lorry joined the M5 at junction 17 and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident. Dashcam footage from drivers in the area and showing the lorry would also be gratefully received."
It added: "For more information about the road closures and diversion route, follow @HighwaysSWest on Twitter. If you can help, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5223050000, or complete our online appeals form."
