Officers from Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that a man has died following an incident on the M49 southbound yesterday afternoon (April 4).
Reports from the time stated a 'serious' collision between two vehicles had occurred at around 1.30pm on the key Bristol route from M4 Prince Of Wales Bridge J22 to M5 J18. Police added that they had responded to reports that someone had "fallen onto the motorway."
As a result of the subsequent police investigations that had to be carried out, the southbound section of road was closed off as of 2.05pm for several hours.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at around 1.30pm to Kings Weston Lane, Bristol, following reports that someone had fallen onto the motorway.
"The M49 has been closed in both directions between junction 18A on the M5 and the M4 junction while emergency services attended the scene."
Just this morning, a spokesperson for the force confirmed that a man was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday afternoon.
Some four hours later, at around 5.50pm, it was announced by National Highways: South West that the M49 was reopen to delays of less than 10 minutes.
