M25 crash latest: 'Multiple-vehicle' collision brings traffic to halt as drivers face hour-long delays

Severe delays are expected on the M25 - (National Highways)

Severe delays are expected on the M25 this afternoon following an earlier crash near the London commuter town of Brentwood.

The crash happened at around 1.40pm just beyond Junction 28 (A12, Brentwood/Brook Street Roundabout), bringing the M25 anticlockwise to a standstill.

Queues are stretching back to Junction 29 (Romford), and severe delays are expected.

Emergency services have been contacted for comment about the earlier crash.

There are currently delays of around 10 minutes from the earlier incident.

One person taken to hospital for treatment following crash

Paramedics took one person to hospital following the M25 crash earlier this afternoon.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called just after 1.30pm to a road traffic collision on the anti-clockwise M25 between junctions 28 and 27.

“Two ambulances were sent to the scene and transported one patient to Whipps Cross Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

No reported injuries, police say

Essex Police has said no one was reportedly injured in the crash and no arrests have been made.

Drivers face 60 minute delays but all lanes have now reopened

All lanes on the M25 have now reopened, National Highways has said.

However, drivers face 60 minute delays as a result of an earlier collision.

National Highways East has issued the following update as of 3.45pm.

“Contractors have cleared a large spillage on the #M25 anti-clockwise between J28 (#Brentwood) and J27 (#M11 - #Epping) following an earlier collision.

“All lanes have been reopened with residual delays of up to 60 minutes on the approach.”

Congestion continues on M25

Congestion has been reported all the way up to J30 following an earlier collision.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area.

There are severe on the M25 anticlockwise this afternoon following a crash near Brentwood.

The incident happened at around 1.40pm just after Junction 28 for the A12 (Brentwood/Brook Street Roundabout).

Traffic is currently queuing back to Junction 29 (Romford), with congestion continuing to build.

According to traffic monitoring service INRIX, recovery work is underway and traffic is being temporarily held at the time of writing.

Essex Police has been contacted by The Standard.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible and expect significant delays.
