M&S shoppers in disbelief over 'random' new £4.50 bacon sandwich

Marks and Spencer shoppers have been left confused after a new item hit the shelves ahead of Easter.

Supermarkets are already stocked full of chocolate eggs and other goodies for the Easter break, despite it still being several weeks away. Hot cross buns have also made an early appearance and there’s the usual mixture of flavours out there if you don’t fancy sticking to the traditional variety.

But now M&S has taken it to the next level with its latest release - and shoppers don’t quite know what to make of it. Posting a video to its Instagram account, food blogger newfoodsuk showed a shopper heading up to an M&S shelf and picking up a limited edition Hot Cross Bun BLT.

Described as a classic BLT with a twist, the bun is filled with Beechwood smoked maple cure British bacon, semi-dried tomatoes, lettuce and smoky mayo in a cheddar cheese and red leicester hot cross bun. The video also showed it comes with a fairly sizeable price tag of £4.50.

Having been asked by newfoodsuk ”Would you try!?” many shoppers took to the comments section to share their views and the feedback wasn’t all glowing.

Therepoman17 said: “Not for 4.50 jog on”. Eggs_pert added: “It's the 1st March, not 1st April - wrong month.”

Tillyandsage said: “No, just no!” Eggs_pert added: “Stop it...It's like a Year 7 Enterprise Day in the creative kitchen…”

Mama.and.mags said: “It’s a cheese hot cross bun so not even sweet - just a cheesy bread roll with a cross on the top. Any excuse to charge a mad price for a novelty sandwich eh”.

And rachierv_foodie added: “How random… I’m deffo intrigued”. You can shop the M&S Easter range online at Ocado here.
