M&S shoppers divided over salt & vinegar mayo as retailer launches new sauce

Marks and Spencer shoppers have been left divided following the retailer's release of a new condiment.

The arguably peculiar sauce in question is the newly launched M&S Salt & Vinegar Mayo. The sauce is actually the world's first salt and vinegar mayonnaise with the retailer branding it the perfect dip for accompany typical British dinners such as fish and chips to chicken strips.

However, M&S customers have some opposing options with some loving the latest additions while others are not so sure. Over 11,000 have joined the debate on social media since the company announced the news.

One one hand, the mayo can add some extra taste to pizza crusts or even some addition salty and vinegar-ness to your favourite crisp.

One commented “Oh my god going to buy immediately”, while another said: "This could be a game changer”

A third said: "This feels like an excuse for fish and chips to me!”

But despite all the love and excitement, there were some who find the combination rather revolting.

One commenter said “Am I the only one who thinks this sounds pretty gross? ” while others said “Yuck!” and “My worst nightmare!”

Sarah-Jane Large, Lead Product Developer for sauces and condiments at M&S, said: “What’s your favourite thing to have on piping hot chips? Salt? Vinegar? Mayonnaise?...

"Well how about ALL THREE!! We had a feeling shoppers would love this saucy new launch but we had no idea it would be so divisive! It’s the perfect condiment to have in the fridge for your next chippy tea, but I also love it on burgers, hot dogs, salads – everything really!

"It’s the ideal thing to have on hand for all your summer barbecues and picnics.”

You can get your hands on the new Salt & Vinegar Mayo in your nearest M&S store for just £1.75.
