"Oh yummy," wrote one, while another added: "Omg I need this in my life."
A third wrote: "That looks delicious," while a commented: "A trip to M&S this weekend I think."
And while many were keen to get their hands on the pie, others argued it had been ruined by its cheese topping.
The pie, which costs £5, is made with two-hour slow cooked braised cuts of British beef in a rich ale gravy, with a layer of smoky tomato chutney, encased in an all-butter pastry base and topped with cheesy chips.
"Lose the cheese and be yummy," pointed out one, while another agreed: "Why ruin it with cheese mun?"
"Without the cheese be perfect," stated a third.
While another asked: "Why put cheese on everything!!!"
"You lost me at cheesy chips," commented one social media user.
Another wrote: "Not sure about the cheesy chips, I think ordinary chips would be better."
M&S introduced shoppers to the pie on Tuesday night and said: "M&S shared a picture of the gorgeous pie on Tuesday night and wrote: "It's Pie Week! And, we have a VIP update (very important pie!!).
"Launching tomorrow, THE pie for you to try - and only to be found at M&S! Our NEW Gastropub Steak AND Chips Pie is hitting the shelves!"
