M&S has recently announced that all store colleagues across Scotland and the rest of the UK can expect a 50p hourly pay rise in the coming months.
The high-street retailer confirmed it will increase the pay and health benefits for all of its 40,000 colleagues from the beginning of April.
The move will see M&S on par with Sainsbury's, after the supermarket chain announced in January this year that they would be increasing their hourly rates to £10 an hour.
Morrisons also made the move last year and became the first supermarket to offer a minimum of £10 an hour.
All M&S store colleagues outside of London are currently paid an hourly rate of £9.50, but they will see that increased to £10 an hour.
M&S' new rates of pay will see them exceed the National Living Wage in the UK, which has just recently increased to £9.90 for areas outside of London.
It follows after budget supermarkets Aldi and Lidl whose wages have also exceeded the national living wage after increasing them to over £10 an hour last year.
The pay increases are part of a broader rewards package that M&S are now offering their employees, as they continue to invest in their people.
The retailer has said that the enhanced benefits package will focus on supporting colleagues health and well-being, after they named it as one of their priorities.
In addition to the extra pay, will not have access to a Virtual GP service, health check screening and advice on financial management.
Staff members will continue to get a 20% discount on M&S, food, clothing and homeware.
Steve Rowe, CEO, said: “M&S is always at its best when we’ve put our people at the heart of it. The contribution our teams have made to support our customers and each other every day through some really challenging times has been remarkable.
By once again increasing our investment into one of the best all round reward offers for store colleagues across retail, we’re making sure that every colleague whatever they do and wherever they work, is properly rewarded and supported at M&S.”
