Lynsey Bennett says 'I can't believe that I'm still here' as she gives treatment update

CervicalCheck campaigner Lynsey Bennett has said she ‘can’t believe’ she’s still here as she prepares to head to Germany for treatment.

The 33-year-old settled her High Court action over the alleged misinterpretation of her cervical smear in February last year.

While doctors have not reportedly found any new tumours, Lynsey shared on social media in recent days that the cancer in her bowel had grown.

On Wednesday, she spoke to Newstalk’s Kieran Cuddihy, and said after being given just months to live, she didn’t think she would make it that far.

"Last November I was told six to eight months, I didn't even feel I'd make that, I can't believe that I'm still here,” she said.

The young mother-of-two also spoke about how the cancer present in her bowels has been growing in the last few weeks but says she is still hopeful and looking towards other treatments.

She explained: "The cancer in my bowels has started to grow, even in the last four or five weeks it grew a lot and technically the cancer is now behaving the way it should have last November when I got diagnosed."

Lynsey told the radio host that she will be heading to Germany soon for treatment and that because the cancer continues to grow it is no longer deemed stable.

"I need to go back and be cared for by people with 24-hour care.

“They say that we can try and stall the growth of your cancer, but you will never know, they just say they are hoping to keep it stable."

Speaking about the potential outcome of the latest developments, she said: "When they scanned me they realised it was growing.

“If it keeps getting bigger and bigger my bowels will eventually burst and I will bleed out, and it will be a matter of whether I can be put on an operating table in time or not.”

However, she remains upbeat in light of the heartbreaking situation and says: “I'm not delusional, I'm hopeful."
