Lyle Taylor reveals 'crazy' Nottingham Forest wish as promotion race hots up

Lyle Taylor might be playing in blue these days, but he is still rooting for Nottingham Forest to get into the Premier League this season.

The striker, who joined Birmingham City on loan in January, endured a frustrating first half of the campaign with the Reds, but he has managed to turn a corner across the Midlands, where he has scored four goals in nine games.

Taylor credits his newfound form and confidence on the game-time he has been afforded by Blues boss Lee Bowyer, who he says has "full trust" in him as a player. At the same time he is happy to see his old teammates performing so well, which he puts down to manager Steve Cooper.

"I'm playing, that's the biggest thing, playing and getting minutes consistently. Any footballer will tell you it's impossible to find form if you don't play," he told the BBC Football Daily podcast.

"So I'm happy I'm playing and it's also good to see how well Forest are playing to be honest. It's a big, big football club and there's finally somebody in charge who is pushing the club and the players in the direction that they should be pushed."

While the 32-year-old is coy on the possibility of turning the temporary move into a permanent transfer, he is clear about wanting to see Forest promoted to the top flight. He even suggested that they could go up automatically, but admitted that it is a "big ask" for his parent club as they try to catch up with second-placed Bournemouth, who are six points ahead in the Championship table.

"I want Nottingham Forest to get in the Premier League and I want that group of players to be able to say that," he said. "I've spoken to a couple of the boys about it. It wasn't until (last week) that they were actually in the play-offs and in them safely and securely.

"They're catching up with the games in hand and I think they'll just want game after game. No training, just rest and recover, and go again. Because when you're in that vein of form, you just want the games to come.

"We had a conversation about in training at Birmingham - could they possibly catch Bournemouth? And they could, they've still got to play Bournemouth. But it's a big ask, you'd be asking for one hell of an upset for Bournemouth to drop enough points to be caught, but it's a crazy game, football."
