Luxury travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller has named Wales in their top UK destinations to visit in 2023. They listed the growing foodie scene, impressive hotels and out-door saunas as just some of the reasons to visit.
Conde Nast Traveller said: "A Welsh foodie renaissance has taken a while to arrive. That’s changing, as a new generation of chefs dig into their terroir." It listed James Sommerin’s Home restaurant in Penarth, SY23 in seaside town Aberystwyth and Annwn in deepest Pembrokeshire as just some of the restaurants to try - although the owners of the latter recently announced they were closing after just 14 months and looking for new premises.
Other restaurants to be recommended included Gareth Ward’s Ynyshir in the Dyfi Valley and Paternoster Farm set in a former Pembroke cowshed. Gareth isn't stopping with Ynyshir as he's opening a new restaurant called Gwen, which will have soughdour pizza on the menu and you can read more about Gwen here. Hotel wise the Albion Aberteifi was named "the coolest hotel to arrive in Wales in years" and the magazine said Pendine Sands is "enjoying a revival" with Caban hotel opening in spring alongside the Museum of Land Speed, which celebrates the many land speed records made on the beach.

Wales has been described by the magazine as the "hub for the UK’s thriving outdoor sauna scene" and sauna recommendations include Snowdonia-based Heartwood Saunas which handcrafts their saunas from sustainable cedar and spruce. If you are looking to travel around Wales Conde Naste Traveller recommend the new slow-travel route The Wild Drovers’ Way which unfurls over 180 miles from the foothills of the Cambrians into the Brecon Beacons and is called "a lovely way to appreciate some of Wales’ rural highlights."
Other locations to make the list of best places to travel to in the UK in 2023 include Manchester, Liverpool and Bath. Elsewhere Conde Nast Traveller have named Conwy Castle as one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. You can keep up to date with the latest What's On news by signing up to the newsletter here.
