Luke Williams sends Joel Taylor message following Notts County return

Luke Williams has insisted that the door is still open for Joel Taylor to make a claim for a starting place in the Notts County team following his return from Dagenham and Redbridge yesterday.

The Magpies defender initially joined Daryl McMahon's side in November until the first week of January, with his stay at Victoria Road extended by a further month in the new year.

Taylor played all six National League encounters in his first spell, with the Daggers winning four of those, but has since made just one substitute appearance in the league in their 2-0 defeat to Yeovil at the end of last month.

But with the form of Saturday's match winner Adam Chicksen and the returning Tobi Adebayo-Rowling who has shown his versatility in that position, it may prove difficult for the 26-year-old to manoeuvre his way back into the first-team fold.

And while the Notts boss understood the difficulties of the defender's situation upon returning to the league leaders, he insisted that opportunities are there to be taken if standards are maintained in training.

"It was more that Dagenham felt like they could go in a different way and a different direction from Joel," explained Williams.

"He didn't play as many minutes towards the end of his second spell.

"But Joel is with us and he trained great today and we will see what happens now.

"Of course it can be quite difficult with the squad and how well so many players are playing - so it can be difficult for him.

"But we know there is a lot of football left and a lot of games close together so things can change very quickly.

"If Joel shows in training every day that he is in a good place, shows great intensity, and good quality in training then anything is possible because he is our player and we will see what happens now."
