Luke Williams hails 'perfect' Notts County ahead of FA Cup tie

Notts County boss Luke Williams has provided further analysis on his side's 3-2 win over Woking at the weekend, explaining further the creative difference between the two sides in the second half did not reflect the eventual score-line.

In what was a hard fought three points at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, the Magpies made it back-to-back away victories, with Ruben Rodrigues' early penalty and a Cedwyn Scott brace enough to cancel out James Daly's equaliser and Recce Grego-Cox's late spot-kick.

The encounter proved to be a bizarre affair between the two sides, with Notts put under huge pressure in the opening exchanges only to find themselves a goal up after Adam Chicksen was tripped inside the penalty area.

Despite Woking dominating the possession, Williams' side continued to be the more clinical. If a side is not playing well but continues to score goals and able to withstand endless amounts of pressure, that shows real credentials of remaining top of the table by the end of the season.

And that win ensured Notts remained top of the National League ahead their fixture with Maidstone United next Friday evening, maintaining their one-point lead over Wrexham whilst opening a five-point gap to Boreham Wood who leapfrogged Chesterfield following the Spireites' defeat to Eastleigh last weekend.

The Magpies take a break from league action this weekend, looking to progress to the FA Cup first round proper as they host Coalville Town in the final qualifying round of the competition.

Speaking ahead of their tie with the Robins this weekend, Williams was able to reflect on the victory against Woking and highlighted his players standing up to the pressure put on them by the home side, whilst labelling the second half of the encounter 'incredible', in terms of the chances created by either side.

"We had a chance to analyse the game like we do all the others, I think really it was a barrage at the beginning of the game," explained Williams.

"I think that whilst Woking put huge pressure on us, they struggled to really create good chances and the guys defended extremely well.

"I think as soon as we were able to grab hold of the ball and start to build moves in the ways that we like to build a move, actually we found routes to goal more easily than it would appear.

"Then the second half is incredible because we create very good chances and more of them but failed to take a chance, and I think that Woking created almost nothing in the second half and managed to come away with a goal.

"It was an extraordinary game. Woking, I think were ferocious and I was really impressed by the level of determination to press us, that was incredible.

"But for the players to stand up to it, was perfect."
