Luke Shaw sends teasing Manchester United transfer message to Harry Kane and Declan Rice

Manchester United are in the market for reinforcements in several parts of their squad this summer.

United finished the Premier League season in third place as a return to the Champions League was sealed in Erik ten Hag's first campaign in charge at Old Trafford. However, the Reds finished the campaign 14 points behind champions Manchester City and United will be seeking to bridge that gap.

Adding reinforcements to Ten Hag's squad this summer will be key to doing just that. A few areas of the squad have been highlighted for improvement.

Centre forward is an obvious one and a priority position for United to reinforce this summer. Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane has been among the top targets for Ten Hag, though the Old Trafford club are said to have ended their interest in the striker owing to the North London club's reluctance to sell.

Indeed, United have been operating on the assumption that Spurs will not sanction a sale of Kane this summer, even though he has only a year left to run on his contract there and will walk away for free 12 months from now. Whether that position from either club changes in the months to come remains to be seen.

Central midfield is another area of Ten Hag's squad which is being targeted for an upgrade. United have agreed personal terms with Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount over a potential move to Old Trafford, though a transfer fee is yet to be reached with the Stamford Bridge club for a player whose contract will expire in mid-2024.

West Ham United captain Declan Rice is another player who looks set to be on the move this summer. United have been linked with his services, though Arsenal and City are other suitors for the England international whose deal runs out next summer at the London Stadium.

Both Kane and Rice were at United's Carrington training ground over the weekend, preparing for England's game at Old Trafford this week, and Luke Shaw shared pictures with the pair alongside the caption 'Carrington tour' with an eyes emoji - a clear joke regarding United's long-standing interest in the England pair.
