Luke Shaw offers Ruben Amorim major boost by returning to Manchester United training

Manchester United have confirmed Luke Shaw has returned to first-team training as he continues to recover from his latest injury.

The 29-year-old has not played for United since coming off in a 2-1 win at Luton Town in February, although he did feature in three games for England at Euro 2024.

He has been plagued by lower leg injuries which reportedly relate to the horrendous break he suffered in 2015 in a Champions League tie with PSV Eindhoven.

Prior to start of this season, he suffered a calf issue, which was only set to keep him out for a few games. However, there have been several setbacks, but he now appears on the cusp of a much-welcomed comeback.

United have been without a recognised senior left-back for several months, with Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot filling in due to the long-term absence of Shaw’s backup Tyrell Malacia.

Shaw’s return follows on from Leny Yoro’s own injury recovery. The young French defender is back in training after a broken foot suffered in pre-season that meant he did not play under Erik ten Hag.

Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen and Antony also returned to the bench for Thursday’s 2-0 Europa League win over PAOK, with Ruben Amorim set to have close to a full squad upon his official start date as the club’s new head coach.
