Luke Shaw gives two reasons to explain why Manchester United suffered defeat vs Arsenal

Luke Shaw thinks Manchester United lacked concentration and were too passive against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Marcus Rashford scored the opening goal at the Emirates, but Eddie Nketiah levelled the score shortly after and Arsenal always looked the more likely to create something against an Erik ten Hag side that was looking to counter-attack.

Bukayo Saka made it 2-1 after half-time and, although Lisandro Martinez produced an equaliser in the 59th minute, Arsenal were relentless with their attacks and they increased the pressure on United's defence until the final whistle.

United's defending was desperate in the match and the Reds' resolve was eventually broken in the 90th minute by Nketiah, who condemned United to their first defeat since November with his second goal of the game.

Shaw spoke to Sky Sports after the defeat and he admitted that United were too passive in the second half.

"I think in the second half, maybe we deserved that. We were passive and we let them control the game completely and to concede right in the end is obviously gutting. I think we know they're an extremely good side," Shaw said.

"We were fighting all the way to that last second and I think in games like this, you have to concentrate for the full game because a little lapse of concentration and you'll concede a goal against a very top side.

"I think coming to the Emirates, they always start really fast. I think they had two corners in the first minute and we got through that and started to have a bit more control of the game. We were winning the ball high and that's how we scored the first goal.

"The first half went well but in the second half we just sort of backed off and let them have control. They were having chance on chance and if it was going to be like that toward the end of the game, they were always going to have one big chance."
